By Elena Voropay Trying to lose weight on a diet? Not a good idea. While following a healthy nutritious eating plan will regard you with a more healthy and enjoyable life, exercise is the panacea for all ailments, including extra kilos. In addition to weight loss, exercise offers a number of health benefits including: - reduced stress - improved sleep - increase in bone mass to fight off osteoporosis - stronger heart to fight heart disease Interestingly, most people think that exercise makes you tired. But in truth, it gives you energy. When you work out just 30 minutes every day (although more is often recommended) you will be amazed at how much energy you have. Sure, you will feel tired after working out but your endorphins will be pumping and your energy level will be boosted. When you work out, you will also find that you develop more lean muscle mass, which can help boost your metabolism.
Studies show that for every pound of muscle, the body will burn from 50 to 100 calories while resting! (Woohoo!) Then when not resting, exercise keeps the metabolism in good working order, which will burn off calories. You will also enjoy better muscle tone from exercise. Rather than having a sagging body, you will be toned and fit. While being on a smoothie diet alone will not flatten a stomach or tone a body, when coupled with exercise, you will see results. In addition to feeling better, your clothes will begin to fit better. Exercise is also a great stress reducer. The actual act of exercise allows the mind to drift off and away from daily stressors. In addition, you will likely enjoy higher self-esteem. |
